Queen Elizabeth national park is located in western Uganda, it is Uganda’s most popular tourist destination. Queen Elizabeth national parks diverse ecosystem which includes sprawling savannah grassland, shady, humid forests, sprawling lakes and wetlands makes it the ideal habitat for big game mammals, 10 primate species including chimpanzees and 600 bird species.

Queen Elizabeth national park was initially kazinga national park in 1952 and was named Queen Elizabeth national park to commemorate the Queens visit in 1964.

Queen Elizabeth can be accessed via masaka, mbarara, kasese from Kampala/Entebbe airport, approximately 387km (5-6 hrs) drive.

There are so many tourist activities and attractions in Queen Elizabeth national park in different parts of the park.

Mweya peninsular

Mweya peninsular is Queen Elizabeth’s most tourist area due to its strategic location with so many accommodations and hotels in the peninsular. There is a lot of wildlife to be seen in mweya peninsular like elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, hyenas, leopards, antelopes among others and 317 bird species that cannot be missed by birders when they visit Queen Elizabeth national park.

Launch trips

Launch trips are done on kazinga channel that joins lakes George and Edward in the mweya peninsular which provides more chances of game viewing like hippos, crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes and many more water loving animals that come be at the water banks including birds. It is done in the morning and afternoon for 2-3 hours at a cost of 30 dollars per person.

Kyambura gorge

Kyambura gorge is located in the Eastern corner of Queen Elizabeth national park which is mostly known for chimpanzees and many more primates, habitat such as the baboons, velvet monkeys, black and white colubus, red tailed monkeys, mongoose among others. Chimpanzee trekking in kyambura gorge is 50 dollars for foreign nonresidents.

Maramagambo forest

This is a natural habitat for many wild primates such as chimpanzees, baboons, monkeys and a lot of flora and fauna that can be seen on a hike with in the forest. The forest is so much favorable to the birders since the forest habits so many bird species.

Kasenyi plains

The open grass lands of kasenyi plains offer beautiful views of game watching during the adventurous game drives. A lot of wildlife is seen like elephants, lions, leopards, hyenas, warthogs, antelopes, sitatungas, and many more that graze in grasslands of the park.

Ishasha sector

This is located in the southern part of Queen Elizabeth national park, it can also be passed through to Bwindi impenetrable national park as a short route. In the ishasha sector the tree climbing lions can be spotted on the fig trees taking a nap and so many more wild animals like leopards, elephants, antelopes etc.
