Visit Kampala cultural sites

After your Breakfast, our guide-driver will pick you from your hotel to visit the various cultural sites in Kampala such as, Kasubi tombs where the kings and royals of the Buganda kingdom are buried and so far, 4 kings are laid to rest at this site, (Buganda Kingdom is one the big, famous still surviving kingdom in Africa), proceed to Naggalabi. (Naggalabi Hill is a cultural, religious and heritage site where the kings of Buganda Kingdom are crowned. It is also believed to be the place where the first king of Buganda Kingdom won the battle for the crown after a fight with his brother, Prince Bemba. He declared that all successive kings of Buganda would be crowned at that place)., the Kabaka’s lake and the Palace of the Buganda king, Uganda Museum, in addition to many other exciting sites, where you will learn about the true history of Uganda and its rich varied culture, have your delicious locally prepared lunch Later In the afternoon, head to the Namugongo shrines where Uganda martyrs where burnt, visit the museum and later proceed to Bahai temple which is only one found in Uganda and the whole Africa. Later in evening proceed to Ndere Cultural centre where you will enjoy lots of entertainment including traditional cultural dances.

Transfer to Fort Portal and visit to Nakayima tree

After breakfast, drive to Fort Portal and along the way visit the Nakayima tree on top of Mubende Hill, 4 km from Mubende town, which is 172 km from Kampala the capital of Uganda.The tree has a large buttresses root, forming nooks and fissures. The root system has formed four spaces believed to be rooms each for Ddahula, Nalongo Jajja Mukasa, Jajja Musoke and Kilunda. The top of the hill has a flat table-like top which is believed to have been a fort for the Chwezi dynasty (1350 -1400) and an official residence of Nakayima, a Princess to Ndahura the last King of the cwezi empire. Once on the top of the hill you will get an excellent view of Mubende Town and the surrounding area. The tree which is 40 meters high is estimated be 400-500 years old, while there you will be told interesting stories about the history of this magical tree. The sight also has a shrine where believers offer sacrifices of coins, animals, harvests and other items to obtain favours of wealth, good health, jobs, win marriage partners of their choice and others from the Bachwezi goddess. The Bachwezi were believed to possess supernatural powers (demi gods). The tree is therefore believed to be the spiritual home for the Bachwezi goddess respected by both the Baganda people and the Banyoro people. Nakayima Shrine is also said to hold the spirit of Ndahura, a former Bachwezi king and after continue to Fort Portal city for dinner and overnight which is referred to as the tourism city of Uganda.

Visit Amabere -ganyina- mwiru caves, 3 crater lakes and transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Amabere ganyina mwiru translates in local language, Rutooro, “breasts of Nyina Mwiru” the caves got this name after king Bakuku of Toro kingdom cutoff his daughters’ breasts and threw them in the caves after hearing the ramour (prophecy) that one day she will get married and produce a son, Ndahura, who will kill the king and take over the throne. And according to the local legends the prophecy come to pass! But in reality, these so-called breasts are the stalactites made up of calcium carbonate and when mixed up with water forms whitish drops which the local people living around the caves call milk. after this cave guided tour, you will continue with the guided nature walk where you will hike some hills to have a clear view of 3 crater lakes on top of the hill and you can also have your picnic lunch as you are enjoying fresh air. Game viewing and launch cruise

In the morning carry your packed breakfast and head out for game viewing in the savannah plains of Kasenyi where animals like elephants, leopards, antelopes, big cat such as lions, leopards can be spotted depending on your luck.

Return to your lodge for lunch and in the afternoon set out for a launch cruise on Kazinga Channel for water animals like hippos, elephants, crocodiles, buffalos as well as water birds. Diner and overnight at Mweya Safari lodge(luxury), Buffalo safari lodge (mid-range) simba safari camp (budget)

Transfer to Mbarara for the Ankole culture with a visit to Igongo and a farm experience at Emburara Farm lodge

After your breakfast, you’ll be transferred to Mbarara city and head to Igongo cultural center in Mbarara city which is also part of the Ankole Kingdom. Igongo cultural center has one of the best museums in western Uganda, traditionally referred to as the Eriijukiro (the museum of South Western Uganda) The park portrays the art, culture and history of Ankore people. If you want to know about Ankore culture, Igongo cultural centre is the best for you.

Igongo cultural centre is the best in preparing local dishes and is constructed in African nature style. Cultural things are portrayed in the cultural centre and some of them are the dressing style, long horned cattle “Bihogo” and lake Mburo gardens which consist of animals and people feature sculptures of the past like Ishe-katabanzi (father of katabazi). The Cultural centre was a former palace for Ankore kings giving a perfect picture of the Ankole set up. Have a trip to the Biharwe eclipse monument which is just a few meters from the cultural center.

Farm Experience and transfer back to kampala

In the morning have breakfast and have a cultural experience on the farm with the magnificent Ankole long horned cattle. One can as well try out the different activities on the farm like milking, grazing as well as ghee making and many other farm activities. Here you get to have a unique farm experience of up-close with the Ankole cattle, banana brewing experience, cycling on the farm, gardening on the farm as well as an interaction with the local women. After your breakfast you’ll be transferred back to Kampala with a lunch stop at the Equator line in Kayabwe. Diner and overnight to be determined with your flight arrangements for your next destination.
